When designing the Vale Palheiro - Earth Resort project, sustainability and environmental integration were prioritized.
From the desire to intervene subtly on a very steep terrain and maintain the memory of its past, the focus on sustainability was born as a key guideline for the intervention.
With the construction in raw earth, the excavations were carried out in such a way as to cause minimal impact on the landscape and so that the necessary earth could be extracted to raise the charming houses.
This ancestral method of traditional construction is completely adapted to the local climate and is very efficient from an ecological point of view as it is fully recycled, “what came from the earth can, in the end, be returned”.

Most of the materials used in the construction of Vale Palheiro - Earth Resort are completely recyclable. From the shale from the region as a natural material for the walls, to the clay baked in the form of tiles for the roofs, using old tiles from ruined buildings, to the wood for the roof structures and carpentry, to the lime used to paint the façades, to the clay used on the interior walls, a whole range of materials and techniques that enhance traditional Portuguese construction and its most authentic features.
At Vale Palheiro - Earth Resort the color palette is dominated by earth tones, which emphasize the strong connection to the soil and echo all the natural and organic material of the valley and the Costa Vicentina.
